What size water polo ball should you buy?

All sports have different regulations in terms of rules, field size, and ball size when it comes to age groups. Typically, most of the regulations are established for adults, whereas kids, youth, and teens are given smaller sized courts, lighter equipment, and so on to compensate for their age. Like most sports, there are different sizes for water polo balls, and we’ll discuss where each ball is used. 

The size 5 ball is the biggest water polo ball available. The size 5 is used for the men’s division ages 14 and older all the way up to the NCAA and the Olympics. Certain divisions require that the ball be a specific color, for example the NFHS and the NCAA requires that all competition balls beYellow, Yellow/Navy, Yellow/Black, Yellow/Green, or Yellow/Red. For specific size requirements, the circumference of the ball shall be not less than 0.68 metres and not more than 0.71 metres. Ball weight is 400-450 grams (14-16 ounces) and inflated to 90-97 kPa (kilopascals) gauge pressure (13-14 psi). 

The size 4 ball is used for women over 14, and men under age 14. The size 4 is the official size for women’s high school, college, and the Olympics. Similar to the size 5, certain divisions require that the ball can only be specific colors. In terms of specifics, the circumference of the ball shall be not less than 0.65 metres and not more than 0.67 metres. Ball weight is 400-450 grams (14-16 ounces) and inflated to 83-90 kPa (12-13 psi) for women.

There are also three other sizes. The size 3 is designed for 14 and under women and 12 and under boys. Size 2 is for ages 12 and under women and 10 and under boys. And the Size 1 is for 8 and under kids.
